Viña Vik Winery La Piu Belle 2015
I met this wine blind, and the pyrazine in it turned out to be the pyrazine of Chile.
Region: Central Valley · Type: Red · Vintage: 2015 · Producer: Viña Vik · Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Syrah

In the glass
On the nose there was blackcurrant and plum. Beneath the fruit sat a softer, sweeter note that I could only call condensed milk.
Producer
Viña Vik began in 2004, when Alexander and Carrie Vik set themselves an ambitious goal and searched for land with a team of winemakers, climatologists, geologists, viticulturists and agronomists; in 2006 they bought land in the Cachapoal Valley. The chief winemaker is Cristian Vallejo. The label of La Piu Belle is the work of the painter Gonzalo Cienfuegos, the first in the winery's Artist's Collection.
Site
The winery is in Millahue, in San Vicente de Tagua Tagua, in the Cachapoal Valley within Rapel and the Central Valley of Chile. The winery's own account says the name Millahue means 'Lugar de Oro', a place of gold.
Vinification
The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère and Syrah. The winery ages its wines in French oak barrels, using a mix of new and used ones.
