Sena Rocas de Seña 2021
This was tasted blind, and I thought it was a Bordeaux with violet. It was dry, with cedar, yeast and grass, and its dried fruit was still alive.
Region: Aconcagua · Type: Red · Vintage: 2021 · Producer: Seña · Grape: Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Petit Verdot, Mourvèdre

In the glass
It was slightly sweet, but there was cedar, yeast and grass. It felt like a wine with a little age on it, perhaps a vintage from around 2010. It was dry, and the fruit was dried but still alive. After the hint that it was the second wine of a well-known New World producer, I guessed it was the second wine of Seña.
Producer
Rocas de Seña is the second wine of Seña. It was designed with a different grape mix from Seña so that it would not become a smaller Seña. The first vintage was 2020.
Site
The wine comes from the Aconcagua Valley in Chile. The name Rocas de Seña comes from the rocky soils of the Aconcagua Valley and honours the large volcanic rocks found throughout the vineyards.
Vinification
The blend is 35% Malbec, 21% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Grenache, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Mourvèdre. Mourvèdre is a red grape that originated in Spain. Petit Verdot ripens late, so many producers abandoned it in the 1960s and 70s, and it is slowly being revived in some quality-focused vineyards.
