Porta Rossa Barolo 2019
This bottle was tasted blind, with high acidity and high tannin, and the tannin read to me as Italian.
Region: Piemonte · Type: Red · Vintage: 2019 · Producer: Cantina della Porta Rossa · Grape: Nebbiolo

In the glass
It was slightly sweet at first, with wet rose, raspberry, tobacco and leather. The colour was slightly brick. Further on, it was not sweet. I thought it might be Nebbiolo, but because it was sweet at the start I guessed Brunello di Montalcino 13.
Producer
The wine is made by Cantina della Porta Rossa. The name Porta Rossa comes from the red door (portone rosso) of the old mansion in Diano d'Alba where the winery stood, which became the winery's symbol. The story goes that Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of Italy, came through that red door many times during his stays to enjoy the wine, and the group that owns Porta Rossa presents the Barolo as its leading wine (punta di diamante).
Site
The wine is from Barolo in Piemonte, Italy, and its places are given as Serralunga d'Alba, Monforte d'Alba and Perno. It is made from Nebbiolo.
Vinification
The winery as a whole ages its wines only in large wooden casks (grandi botti).
