In the glass

I thought at first it would be a wine of neutral fruit, but it turned out sweet and tangy, with a grassy note and minerality. I thought it was not made up the way a Bourgogne is. I correctly picked it as a Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre in the Loire.

Producer

The Pinard Brothers label is run separately from Domaine Vincent Pinard by Florent and Clément Pinard, the brothers who lead that domaine in the village of Bué, and under this label they farm vineyards that belong to other people. The Pinard family has tended vineyards and made wine in Bué, a village south of Sancerre, since the 17th century.

Site

The vineyard lies in Sancerre, in the Upper Loire. La Moussière is on Kimmeridgian soil not far from Bué, faces full south, and its vines are over 50 years old. The parcel is owned by a friend who worked with the Pinard brothers for some years, and the brothers, who also lead the domaine, carry out the organic and biodynamic treatments themselves.

Vinification

The wine is fermented with the brothers' own natural yeast and aged in large oak barrels from Tonnellerie Lacroix.
