In the glass
The colour is pale lemon. Acidity is medium-plus, alcohol medium, body medium-minus and the finish medium. A slight touch of oak comes through.
Producer
Olivier Leflaive set up a grape buying structure 40 years ago to offer his customers a more varied range of appellations, and through partnerships with other growers the house built a broad range centred on white wines. The house owns 26 hectares across 82 Climats, mainly in Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, and with the grapes it buys in it can offer almost all the appellations of the Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis.
Site
The wine is a Bourgogne from France, drawn from around ten plots selected on the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise and the Hautes Côtes. The plots are vinified separately and then brought together.
Vinification
At the house, all the plots are kept in separate batches, so each one can be tasted on its own and the winemaking choices adjusted throughout the year. The Chardonnay bunches are pressed directly and gently, and the juice goes straight into barrels to ferment and age. The house describes the style of its white wines as freshness and tension.
