In the glass
This is a Pinot that has gone toward dark red fruit. The acidity is high, and the wine is juicy and deep. Even tasted blind, a Pinot like this would no longer fool me.
Producer
Domaine Bruno Clair was founded by Bruno Clair in 1979. The family's vine growing goes back to the early nineteenth century, and Bruno Clair is the sixth generation of growers. Since 2015 the domaine has pruned all of its vines using the Guyot-Poussard method.
Site
Les Jarrons is a 1er Cru in Savigny-lès-Beaune, in the Côte de Beaune of the Côte d'Or, Bourgogne, France. The soil is clay and limestone (argilo-calcaire), at an average altitude of 250 metres. The vines in Les Jarrons were planted in 1983 and 1987.
Vinification
The fruit includes 20 to 30% whole clusters (vendange entière). It macerates for 10 to 15 days in wooden fermentation vats. The wine is then aged 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, about 30% of them new.
