Borgogno Barolo Liste 2015
A Barolo from the Liste vineyard that was still very firm, with cherry, strong tannins and medium body. It seemed it could have been kept longer.

In the glass
The 2016 vintage I had earlier had already aged, so I was worried about this bottle, but this one was very firm. It showed cherry and a medium ruby colour, with strong tannins and medium body. It felt as though it would have been fine to keep it longer.
Producer
The estate, Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, was founded in 1761 by Bartolomeo Borgogno in the village of Barolo, and the Farinetti family bought it in 2008. Since 1920 the domaine has kept part of the wine from good vintages in its cellars for at least 20 years before selling it. As a result the cellar has become a rare archive of old Langhe vintages.
Site
The Liste vineyard lies in the village of Barolo, in the Langhe area of Piemonte, Italy, and faces south and south-east. It covers about 6.75 ha and is bordered by a truffle wood, which keeps its heat accumulation about 2 °C lower than the surrounding area. The soil formed from the erosion of the land above it, so its composition is slightly different from other Langhe soils.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed and crushed, then ferment spontaneously, without selected yeasts, in large cement tanks. This is followed by submerged-cap maceration (cappello sommerso), also in cement. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels (botte). It is 100% Nebbiolo.
